Frenchgate Shopping Centre is celebrating having been awarded a national accreditation for its safe car park for the tenth year running.

The Centre has received the Park Mark, which is the accredited logo of Safer Parking Scheme, which is given to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police and the British Parking Association.

Their assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, checking that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness. All these are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and thus create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.

Paddy Mellon, assistant centre manager at Frenchgate Shopping Centre, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved this recognition for our car parking facilities for the tenth consecutive year. We are very committed to achieving high standards throughout all aspects of Frenchgate and we care about our customers’ experience when they visit the centre.

“Our car park is very well used by shoppers and rail users alike and we are very proud that we have maintained such a high safety standard for the past decade.”

Philip Taylor, area manager Northeast, British Parking Association, said: “Frenchgate have had this award now for ten years and that is a fantastic achievement.

“Safer parking aims to set standards for car parking throughout the Country and Frenchgate have maintained this standard for the last ten years. They have even gone above the standard, so as a management team they are to be congratulated for looking after all their customers who use the car park.”

Superintendent Neil Thomas of South Yorkshire Police said: “Safe car parking is important for Frenchgate as they want to bring customers in who are confident that they are going to shop and not be a victim of crime.

“This is equally as important for us as we look to keep crime levels down and we want Doncaster be a safe place .The fact that Frenchgate have this award contributes overall towards Doncaster being a safe environment.”
