East Herts achieves Park Mark for all its car parks
East Herts Council is one of a handful of local authorities in the UK that has managed to achieve Park Mark status at all its car parks.
The council previously had 7 awards and worked hard to bring a further seventeen car parks into the scheme this year.
A Park Mark is awarded to parking facilities that pass a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association. The assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, ensuring that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness. These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.
Antony Powell, BPA Area Manager, said: “I am delighted to confirm that all seventeen facilities were awarded Park Mark. This is a great achievement indeed and I congratulate all the staff at the East Herts Council Parking Office for their dedication.
“Only a few local authorities in the UK have Park Mark at all their parking facilities so this really is an exceptional achievement.”
Hertfordshire Police Crime Prevention Design Advisor and Park Mark Award Assessor, Mark Montgomery said: “I would like to congratulate the Parking Services at East Herts Council on achieving accreditation for all their parking facilities. They are the first authority in Hertfordshire to do this and one of the few in the country to reach this distinction. The team work very hard to ensure the facilities are safe and secure for users. This award acknowledges all their hard work.”
Car parks with the Park Mark award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark tick, so that drivers know exactly where to go for safer parking. Early adopters of the scheme saw a dramatic drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80% showing that the initiative really does make a difference.
